University of South Carolina Football Operations Center
Tuesday, December 4
12pm-1pm
The University of South Carolina’s 110,000 square foot, $50 million Football Operations Center, a collaboration between Quackenbush Architects + Planners and Gensler Sports, is the new headquarters and crown jewel of Gamecock Football.
The Football Operations Center consolidates a number of previously decentralized functions: over 33,000 square feet of dedicated weight room and training space; a room for hydrotherapy treatments; nutrition and flexible dining areas; coach and staff offices; meeting rooms; locker rooms; and a players’ lounge. The building also includes event space for recruitment and donor initiatives and a large glass atrium allowing the public to experience interactive exhibits and displays highlighting the team’s history and achievements. The increased efficiency of the planning will streamline student athletes’ days, allowing more time for training, academics, and social activities.
Sited next to the indoor practice facility and outdoor practice fields, the exterior facades of the Operations Center blend new, compelling features with USC campus precedents. The building, which is pursuing two Green Globes, incorporates large expanses of glass to capitalize on views towards the adjacent Williams Brice Stadium and at the same time provides fans glimpses of the activity inside. As a tool for recruiting and a tool for performance, the new Football Operations Center will put the University of South Carolina “ahead of the pack” in the SEC and raise the bar for other football programs around the nation.
