Building Tour: BullStreet Westlawn

BullStreet Westlawn is a 5-story mass timber hybrid building that will provide office and retail space to the community of the Bull Street District. There are 5 categories that were drivers in the design of the building:

Simplicity | Simple sophisticated composition of a dark weathered barn inspired mass floating above a light-colored animated retail base defined by cast in place concrete board formed walls and glass

Nature | Use of mass timber and exposed steel frame structure and expression of natural raw materials at the façade and interior public spaces

Play | Variety of retail indoor/outdoor experiences connected to adjacent green space. Outdoor terraces and balconies for office tenants

Craft | Rural structures of the Carolina landscape are expressed in cast in place board form concrete “remnant” walls at the retail base and an office box with barn-like articulated façade paneling and joinery.

History | The building form responds to the Bull Street District’s historic roof scape of domes and steeples and provides moments in the façade that frame important views back to the City of Columbia and historic structures on site.
