Head Juror

Margaret L. Butler, AIA, LEED AP

Ms. Butler is an Associate Principal at McCarty Holsaple MCarty. Moving to McCarty in 2015, she has practiced architecture in both Nashville and Knoxville for over 30 years, working with both large and small firms as well as owning her own architectural practice. Her experience includes site development / redevelopment / master planning; new urbanist neighborhood planning; healthcare; single family and multifamily affordable housing; and K-12 as well as higher education planning and design projects. In addition to architecture and planning, she has provided full interior design services on most of her completed projects. Her healthcare focus has been in clinic design and she presented at the 2012 National Association of Community Health Centers Conference and Knoxville Medical Group Management Association on Healthcare Clinic Design.

An award-winning designer, she founded the design awards program for the AIA East Tennessee and has remained very involved in her alma mater – The UT College of Architecture and Design. She has served as a visiting lecturer teaching second year studio in architecture and interior design, served as a Bronze Medal juror and currently serves on the Dean’s Board of Advisors. She is regularly invited as a visiting studio juror. In 2014 she was invited to participate on the National Architectural Accrediting Board Accreditation Team for the college.

She has been very active in the Knoxville community throughout her career serving in leadership roles on many volunteer community boards and panels.
