Richland Main Library
Wednesday, November 29th @ 12pm
1431 Assembly St.
Columbia, SC 29201
The renovation of the Main Library encompasses 175,656 square feet and three floors focused on delivering a solution to improved customer service and public gathering spaces that promote learning, creating and sharing. The design offers reimagined spaces that allow for greater collaboration and focused study spaces. Features include:
Teen Maker Spaces and Deck
Story Time and Puppet Stage
Flexible Auditorium space
Art Studios
Family Career Studio
Computer/Video Labs
Flexible Meeting Rooms
Staff/Support Areas
The new space allows the library to deliver more focused programming to the community with dedicated spaces that foster creativity and collaboration. Additionally, the aging infrastructure and systems are upgraded to preserve an architectural icon in downtown Columbia. From an urban planning standpoint, a new main level entry plaza and outdoor gathering space, art gallery and café all activate the adjacent streets. A new lower level entry connects to the lower parking to welcome families and school groups to the children, teen and family spaces.
The design was a collaborative effort led by BOUDREAUX and included McMillan Pazdan Smith and Margaret Sullivan Studios.
Meet inside at the entrance on the corner of Hampton and Assembly Street. Parking is available in the lot at the corner of Washington and Park Street as well as metered parking. Hard hats are not required.
$5 (+ convenience fee) Presentation, Tour, and Lunch @ 12pm.
