The new School of Law for the University of South Carolina will become a focal point for the legal community in the state. Beyond its primary mission as the center for education for our state’s future attorneys and legislators, the new facility will also provide a home for legal research, continuing education and public outreach. The multi-story, state-of-the-art law library is highlighted by a signature reading room overlooking the courtyard campus. In addition to the nearly 200,000 square feet of newly designed facilities is the integration of two existing historic structures on the site; the Horry-Guignard House and the Taylor House (both buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places). The insensitive wings added in the 1970’s to the Taylor House when it served as an Art Museum will be removed and both structures are envisioned to serve future programs associated with the School of Law. The entire city block complex has been designed by a team of architects and engineers led by The Boudreaux Group and SmithGroupJJR.
