AIAGC’s Annual Kids in Architecture Day

Saturday, April 18th 10:00am – 2:00pm

@ EdVenture Children’s Museum
211 Gervais St.
Columbia, SC 29201

Please RSVP your volunteer hours to Ashley Colquhoun today!

This year’s Kids in Architecture Day will allow students to experience the architect’s collaborative design process. This program is designed to:

  • Introduce students to the process of architectural design
    • Explore the relationship between architectural design and art
    • Create an awareness of the artistic and built environment
    • Enhance communication skills

These program goals will be achieved through the design and construction of a Rube Goldberg machine. In this activity, students will work together and learn that there is more than one creative solution to any problem. Through the successful design of their machines, students will discover that the beauty in any design can be found in how it accomplishes its goal. After the students complete their projects, we will tour the museum’s collection of art and evaluate the unique ways in which various artists accomplish their diverse design goals.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 18th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the EdVenture Children’s Museum. The exercises will be facilitated by architects from around the Columbia area. All materials will be provided by the Museum of Art, a pizza lunch will be included and the event is completely free. Space, however, is limited.
