Airflow Management for Healthcare Facilities

Air is the primary carrier of heat, moisture, and contaminants in health care facilities such as patient rooms, isolation rooms, and operating rooms. The flow path of supply air plays an important role in determining the air velocities, air temperatures, concentration of contaminants, and path of airborne pathogens in these spaces. These factors in turn determine thermal comfort of occupants, indoor air quality, and potential for transmission of airborne pathogens. This presentation will focus on the importance of HVAC configuration on airflow distribution and flow path of airborne contaminants in patient rooms and operating rooms. In addition, this presentation will cover the applications of active chilled beams, radiant heating and cooling, and displacement ventilation in patient rooms.sti-campusmap_directions_rev2_1752821071

Registration is now live for AIASC’s second annual mini-conference focused on Resilience. This year’s theme: From the Blue Ridge to the Coast will present a series of speakers that address environmental and design issues affecting practitioners across the state. Our keynote speaker is Laura Lesniewski, a Principal at BNIM Architects. Laura led the design team efforts on the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center in Kansas City, a public/ private partnership that features the first Living Machine™ in the State of Missouri and she was project manager for the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, a LEED Platinum project. Her other, significant work includes the Omega Center for Sustainable Living, the first Living Building and LEED Platinum certified building in the world. In her session Resiliency and Interdependence, she will discuss resilient design principals inspired by natural systems that promote shared diversity and interdependence. We hope you’ll make plans to join us for an exciting day of presentations and discussions on this important topic. Register today!
