  2. To identify 3 systems for installing Thin-Clad stone materials and how these different systems influence design decisions.

“Building Enclosure Design and Effects on Internal Environment”

  1. Identify components of the Building Enclosure that restrict air and water Infiltration and how they can help prevent mold growth in the interior of buildings by identifying the proper placement of those components.
  2. Understand the health and safety risks of building enclosure design flaws and construction defects.
  3. Distinguish between Fundamental and Enhanced Building Enclosure Commissioning tasks and performance verification to reduce potential for indoor environmental risks.
  4. Develop an understanding of Hygrothermics (WUFI) and how this area of science can identify areas of potential condensation within building enclosure systems to build a healthier space for building occupants.

  4. Understanding the acoustical NRC and CAC ratings, how they are calculated and what impact they have on indoor environmental comfort and performance.

Parking Garage Instructions:
Enter parking garage from Calhoun Street.  The parking garage is first come – first served parking.  Be sure to take a parking voucher from the automated teller once you enter the garage. Please do not park in the spaces marked reserved on the ground or with the blue signs.  These are other tenant reserved parking.

There is an elevator in the parking garage that you take down to the 1st level and it will open into the lobby area.  Follow the hall down to the main lobby, check in with the security guard.

You can obtain a parking voucher from Security before you leave.  You will need both vouchers upon exiting the garage; otherwise, you will have to pay to exit the parking deck.

The building is occupied so there are no safety requirements. For security reasons, we will need an accurate RSVP list, therefore, an RSVP is required for this tour.

The Greater Columbia Section of the AIA is pleased to announce the

2014 Design Awards

program to recognize outstanding achievements in architecture
performed by AIAGC Member architects and firms.

October 30th

as our jury chair and presenter at the event.

Steven Schuster

Steven D. Schuster is a founding principal of Clearscapes.  His career spans the design of single family residences to major public facilities. A significant focus of his work has been on museums, libraries, visual arts centers, and performing arts theaters.  As a national leader in the historic preservation community, Steve has led the effort in revitalizing countless historic structures, developing vital contemporary uses for them within their communities. Notable projects include the Exploris Museum (Marbles Kids Museum) and IMAX Theater, the Pine State Creamery on Glenwood South, the Raleigh Convention Center, and the new Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh’s Warehouse District. Under Steve’s guidance Clearscapes has been recognized with over 75 local, regional, and national design awards.
